A general conceptual framework for multi-dimensional spatio-temporal data sets

In the era of ubiquitous data collection and generation, demands are high to make these accessible as widely possible, with little effort much power flexibility ever possible. On Earth data, this holds in particular for pixel point clouds, some main “Big Data” today. Coverages represent a unifying concept space/time-varying especially spatio-temporal gridded nowadays often called “datacubes". Coverage standards exist, however, their fundaments appear places technically outdated, imprecise, not suitable full spectrum data. Due lack there is danger missing interoperability goals impeding future-directed services. We introduce conceptual coverage model forthcoming ISO 19123-1 standard. It generic, supporting all dimensions unified manner, compatible existing implementation OGC ISO. demonstrate feasibility through concrete service examples.
